When an advice is issued the position of the cyclone is given both a longitude and latitude reading as a 16-point compass bearing. To plot the cyclone's route yourself use the longitude (vertical lines) and latitude (horizontal lines) readings and mark them on the plotting map above. Remember that readings are given for the "eye" of the cyclone, which is the centre. Gale force winds may be experienced on the coast many hours and hundreds of kilometers ahead of the cyclone's centre
