The Rocky Point area was the first residential area of Town to be established along with single persons quarters, flats, shops, sporting facilities and town services. When Weipa expanded very little changed in the area except for the relocation of the shopping centre (moved to Nanum).
Residential
The houses are predominately Rio Tinto three and four bedroom low sets; however, over the years Rio Tinto has made some improvements to their properties. eg. in the 1990s a small number of houses were upgraded with a fourth bedroom (creating a second floor) and a larger living area, they are known as "Pop Tops". In addition, Rio Tinto have upgraded some of their houses by enlarging lounge/family areas, kitchens and adding a fourth bedroom.
Single Persons Quarters (SPQ) - The SPQ comprises of 124 mainly single rooms with shared ablutions and washing facilities. It has a central mess, recreation area and it houses the public weights gymnasium.
Comalco Lodge is owned and operated by Rio Tinto for visiting executive staff and dignitaries e.g. the Prime Minister.
Community and Special Use/Open Space
Hospital - Is on 2 Hectares, has nine buildings with no operating theatre, 16 beds and 45 staff. Normally the Hospital would have two doctors, but at present they have one. Additionally, four specialists visit Weipa monthly. Co-located with the hospital is the Cape York Health Department.
Health Block - Is a single story block which accommodates; doctors surgery, dentists surgery and an optometrists surgery.
Memorial Square - Is three separate buildings forming a U-shape. The buildings accommodate; the government agency and offices, assembly hall, counseling service, real estate, business equipment shop and the local newspaper.
Western Cape College (WCC) -Weipa Campus - Is on 6.3 Hectares. The WCC is currently planning to construct additional facilities to meet growing demands.
Police Station - The police station has one building with seven cells, a boat shed and a police three-bedroom house. Twelve policemen and one administration person man the station and their area of operations extends from the Jardine River in the north to the Archer River in the south.
Weipa Town Office Complex - The complex includes; Town Office, WTA Chambers, Community Care, Library, Pottery Room and Shop, Children playgroup facility, Weipa Traditional Owner Office (Malaruch Pty Ltd).
Sporting, Recreational and Religious Facilities - The facilities are; two tennis courts, cricket/cricket nets/aussie rules oval, rugby oval, swimming pool (25m) and toddlers pool, weights gymnasium, gymnastics club, dance academy, BMX track, basketball court, a single lane boat ramp, a Catholic Church and two children’s playgrounds.
Commercial/Retail
The only commercial/retail properties are the Shell Service Station, Spotless (parks and gardens depot) and a painting company depot.
