It is never to early in the year to prepare for cyclone season. Throughout the year check the following-
- Trim trees and de-nut coconut palms. Ensure that trees and branches are clear from your home and overhead powerlines. Do not attempt to clear trees from powerlines yourself - call Town Office for advice.
- Speak to your family about how a cyclone or flooding will effect you, and discuss the possibility of evacuation.
- Keep your vehicle regularly fuelled.
- Be sure to have a First Aid Kit and that a member of the family has been trained in CPR and First Aid.
- Keep a Cyclone Emergency Kit on hand.
- Have a good stock of tinned food for the family and any pets (eg. 3 days worth).
- Have alternative cooking equipment (eg. gas BBQ).
- Have a list of important phone numbers handy (eg. Weipa/Napranum Cycone Control Centre 4069 9119).
- Consider the special needs of family members who require medication, or are disabled/elderly, as you may need to keep medication supplies or require more time to prepare and evacuate.
