Peter McCulkin is the elected Chairperson of the Planning and Development Sub-Committee. Peter's responsibilities include the Boat Ramp, Swimming Pool/Sports Complex, Tourism, Youth and Major Events Co-Ordinator. Peter is a Senior Projects Officer with the DPI (Department of Primary Industries)
Peter has lived in Weipa since 1999 (with a brief career move to Townsville) with his wife Julia and daughters Maddie and Morgan.
He is the great -great grandson of Thomas McCulkin, transported from Country Tyrone on the convict ship Neptune II in 1835, who, eventually after receiving a 'ticket of leave' became one of the pioneering families in the Warwick region of South Queensland.
Peter is also the President of the Weipa Sportsfishing Club, seen as an extension of his service as a State Fisheries Officer for over 16 years. If he doesn't know where the fish are biting, who would?
Currently employed as a Senior Project Officer with the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, his role with the WTC (Weipa Town Committee) as Chair of the Planning and Development Committee seems a good fit given the importance of Weipa as a live cattle port, and a huge potential for the timber industry. His role extends into work with the communities thoughout the Western Cape Region.
