Zara Cresswell is Comalco appointed and is the Chairperson of the Administration and Finance Sub-Committee. Zara's responsibilities include Accounting, Budget, Policies, Meeting , Legal Matters, Audits and Local Laws.
Zara moved to Weipa in late 2002 to take up her role as Manger Business Services for the mine, and at this time also took up the role as Chair of Administration and Finance for the Weipa Town Committee. Zara's work for Weipa Town includes support of all administration and financial activities undertaken by the Town Committee and staff. These functions included accounting, audit, rates management,computing and systems support.
Zara and her fiance Owen Fisher enjoy outdoor activities such as diving, rock climbing, bushwalking, skiing and fishing. They have settled in well to the outdoor life and sense of community that Weipa offers. Zara also enjoys cooking, arts and travel as-well as taking opportunities to contribute to the community in which she lives.
She grew up in rural Tasmania and graduated form the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. After spending a year in Canada on a Rotary youth exchange scholarship, she commenced work as an accountant for a Chartered accounting firm in Northern Tasmania.
In 1995 Zara started her career with Comalco taking a role with Comalco Aluminium Smelter at Bell Bay in Tasmania as a management accountant. From Tasmania, Zara moved to the Comalco corporate offices in Brisbane as a Systems Specialist. She also spent time working at the New Zealand Aluminium Smelters and at the Boyne Smelters in Gladstone, Qld.
Zara completed a Masters Degree with Distinction in Environmental Management and Restoration from the Charles Sturt University in New South Wales in 2000. At this time she moved to an Environmental Specialist role in the group and during this role received her first opportunities to work with Comalco in Weipa. Zara also spent some time completing Environment Systems work for the ERA Ranger Mine in the Northern Territory.
