Water Supply
Water times are from 6am to 9am or 6pm to 9pm everyday, unless told otherwise. Hand watering is allowed by an adult outside these hours.
Water Quality
Water samples are taken weekly and tested for bacteria including E-coli, Heterotrophic Plate Count, Total Coliforms and pH levels. Once yearly samples are taken and tested for minerals and hardness. Test results are available here.
Weipa Town Authority add lime and chlorine to the towns water supply to improve the water quality.
Where does it come from?
Town water is pumped from shallow aquifer bores to a 2,000,000 gallon holding dam then pumped to a 200,000 gallon elevated water reservoir. It is then gravity fed to water mains and houses.
Monthly checks are carried out to monitor bore water levels to help us better manage and understand our water supply for future needs.
