The Trunding area was the next residential area to be established in the 1970s and 1980s. The area is Residential with some Tourist/Commercial and Community and Special Use Zoning/Open Space.
Residential
The houses are predominately Rio Tinto owned high set three and four bedrooms. There are also some duplexes, triplexes and flats.
Queensland Ambulance Service is zoned residential and located on 1200 square metres, with two buildings, two ambulance vehicles and two full time staff.
Community and Special Use/Open Space
Rio Tinto Regeneration Compound is adjacent to the Bowls Club on 8 Hectares.
Sporting, Recreational, Religious and Child Care Facilities - The facilities are; nine-hole golf course with licensed club, a licensed bowls club with two bowling greens, a childrens playground, a childcare centre and a Uniting Church.
Tourist Commercial
The Albatross Hotel Resort is the only hotel in Weipa and is situated on 5.69 Hectares. The hotel offers a public bar with TAB, bistro and poker machine lounge, Al-A-Carte restaurant and drive through bottle shop. They have 100 units and three levels of accommodation (bungalows, village and standard hotel rooms).
