Nanum area was established as the Commercial center of Town along with some Residential, Tourist Commercial and Community and Special Use Zoning.
Residential
The houses are predominately privately owned so they vary in shape and size. There are, however, some duplexes/triplexes and town houses so the area resembles that of what you would expect elsewhere.
Community and Special Use/Open Space
Sporting and Recreational Facilities - The facilities are; three tennis courts, three squash courts, three basketball courts and a Lions Park (the Lions Park is on 4.3 Hectares with an open air entertainment area, kitchen and ablutions).
Commercial/Retail
McNamara Centre includes; Post Office, Credit Union, Newsagent, Chemist, Travel Agent and Gift Shop.
Nanum Shopping Centre Mall includes; Woolworths (groceries and department), bakery, hairdressing salon, cafe, two takeaways, clothing store, fishing tackle store and a video shop.
The Heritage Resort is a four-star boutique resort with 30 rooms, some self-contained. The resort also provides a pool, pool bar, barbeque area and a la carte restaurant.
Tourist Commercial
The Weipa Camping Ground is privately owned and is adjacent to the McNamara Centre. It is only open to the public during the dry season and it can accommodate up to approximately 400 campers each night. In addition it has 17 cabins available.
