In April 2012 the 4-year term for the current Weipa Town Authority began.

The Weipa Town Authority Committee is made up of seven members, four of which are elected by Weipa residents registered on the QLD electoral role. Two members are appointed representatives for RTA Weipa and one appointed representative for the Traditional Owners.

General meetings of the Weipa Town Authority are held in the Council Chambers usually on the third Friday of each month commencing at 8.30am.  All meetings are open to the public. Correspondence for General meetings closes on the Wednesday of the week prior to the meeting to allow council officers sufficient time to prepare reports. Agendas’ are available for collection on the Friday afternoon prior to the meeting. If needed, a meeting may be called two weeks prior to the General Meeting (usually on the first Thursday of the month) at 8.00am. 

These meetings are for discussion of urgent items such as Town Planning.
